Neymar Demands PSG Sell Cavani Over Penalty Bust-up
Neymar is demanding that Paris Saint-Germain sell his strike partner Edinson Cavani after the pair clashed over penalty responsibilities during the weekend.
The world watched in shock as Ney and Cavani argued on the pitch over who would take a free kick and a penalty in Sunday’s win over Caen, forcing boss Unai Emery to tell them to “sort it out” themselves afterwards.
But French media is reporting that “Neymar has already communicated to [CEO] Nasser Al-Khelaifi that his coexistence with Cavani is totally impossible.”
Reports also went viral that Cavani and Neymar nearly came to blows in the dressing room and had to be separated by team captain Tiago Silva, Metro writes.
The penalty spat has split French football, with Nice striker Mario Balotelli, directing a message at the Brazilian on Instagram saying: “You shouldn’t even ask for shot them.”
Now it remains to be seen if Neymar’s €222 million price tag also comes with a clause that PSG accede to his transfer wishes.
Cavani signed a new long-term deal in the summer following his goalscoring exploits last season and would command a considerable fee in January should PSG bow to Neymar’s demands.
The Uruguayan attempted to downplay the story in the media, saying they were merely ‘created’.
“These things are created. I don’t know why these stories are created. The truth is that these are normal things; things that happen in football,” Cavani said on Monday.
“I learned of the story just now talking with my brother, about people saying that Cavani won’t let anyone take penalties and that there’s a problem with Neymar. The truth is that there’s no problem.”
